Precautions for Forklift Operation
Apr 29 , 2025
Forklifts are industrial handling vehicles that greatly improve the transportation efficiency of loading, unloading, stacking and short-distance transportation of palletized goods.
However, as special equipment in factories, forklifts have always been a high-incidence point for safety accidents. The following are precautions for forklift operation, welcome to read.
1. Before and after the fork lift truck operation, the appearance should be checked, and fuel, lubricating oil and cooling water should be added.
2. Check the starting, operation and braking safety performance.
3. Check whether the lights and horn signals are complete and effective.
4. During the operation of the forklift, the pressure and temperature should be checked to see if they are normal.
5. After the forklift is running, the external leakage should also be checked and the seals should be replaced in time.
Starting
1. Before starting, observe the surroundings and confirm that there are no obstacles that hinder driving safety. Then honk the horn first and start.
2. For vehicles with hydraulic (pneumatic) brakes, the brake hydraulic (pneumatic) gauge must reach safety before starting.
3. When the forklift starts with loads, the driver should first confirm that the load is stable and reliable.
4. Start slowly and steadily.
Driving
1. When driving, the height of the bottom of the fork from the ground should be maintained at 300-400mm, and the mast must be tilted backward.
2. The fork must not be raised too high when driving. When entering and exiting the work site or driving, pay attention to whether there will be obstacles in the air. When driving with loads, the fork must not be raised too high, which will affect the stability of the forklift.
3. After unloading, the fork should be lowered to the normal driving position before driving.
4. When turning, if there are pedestrians or vehicles nearby, the driving signal should be issued first. High-speed sharp turns are prohibited, which will cause the vehicle to lose lateral stability and overturn.
5. It is strictly forbidden to turn off the engine and slide when driving downhill, and it is forbidden to brake suddenly when driving with loads unless there are special circumstances.
6. When the forklift is running, it must comply with the traffic rules in the factory and must maintain a certain safe distance from the vehicle in front.
7. When the warehouse forklift is running, the load must be in the lowest position that does not hinder driving, and the mast should be tilted backward appropriately. Except when stacking or loading, the load shall not be raised.
8. The height of the load shall not block the driver's line of sight. In special cases, when the items affect the forward line of sight, the vehicle shall be driven at a low speed when reversing.
9. It is forbidden to turn on the ramp, and it is not allowed to drive across the ramp.
10. The safe driving speed of the forklift in the factory area is 5 km/h, and it must be driven at a low speed and safely when entering the production workshop area.
11. When the forklift is lifting, lifting or driving, personnel are prohibited from standing on the forks to hold items and balance.
12. When problems are found, they should be repaired and reported in time, and they should never be operated with problems or concealed.
Loading and unloading
1. When forking items, the distance between the two forks should be adjusted as needed to balance the load of the two forks, and they should not be skewed. One side of the item should be close to the object blocking rack.
2. It is forbidden to operate with a single fork or use the fork to lift or pull objects. In special cases, safety warning signs must be set up to remind pedestrians around when pulling objects.
3. During the loading and unloading process of items, the forklift must be braked with brakes.
4. The vehicle speed should be slow and steady, and be careful not to run over the objects and wooden blocks, so as to avoid the objects being rolled up and injuring people.
5. When using a fork to pick up goods, the fork should be inserted as deep as possible under the load, and be careful not to let the fork tip touch other goods or objects. The minimum mast tilt should be used to stabilize the load to prevent the load from sliding backwards. When putting down the load, the mast can be tilted forward a small amount to facilitate the placement of the load and the withdrawal of the fork.
6. It is forbidden to pick up goods at high speed and to collide with hard objects with the fork head.
7. When the forklift is working, people are prohibited from standing around the fork to avoid the collapse of the goods and injuring people.
8. It is forbidden to overload, and it is forbidden to use the fork to lift people to work at heights to avoid accidents of falling from heights.
9. It is not allowed to use the brake inertia to slide, release, round or easy-to-roll objects.
10. It is not allowed to unload goods by picking, turning or palletizing with forks.
Leaving the forklift
1. It is forbidden to leave the forklift when the forks are suspended. Before leaving the forklift, the goods must be unloaded or the forks must be lowered.
2. Pull the parking brake handle or press the handbrake switch.
3. The engine is turned off and the power is turned off. (Except for special circumstances, such as the driver does not leave the sight of the vehicle and does not exceed 1 minute).
4. Remove the key.
Safety Operation Specifications for Forklifts
1. Check before leaving the vehicle:
2. If there is someone in front of you during driving, you should give a signal 5 m away;
3. The driving speed in the factory shall not exceed 15 km/h, and the speed shall not exceed 10 km/h in other complex areas such as factory gates, elevators, turns, crowded areas, narrow passages, etc.;
4. The lowest point of the goods should be 0.3m~0.4m above the ground when driving;
5. Do not turn too sharply to prevent the tendency of "free turning":
6. Going up and down the slope should be slow and at a constant speed, and you shall not turn on the slope
7. Do not drive across the slope. When the slope is greater than 10 % when the forklift is moving forward, the vehicle should be driven in reverse when the forklift is carrying goods.
8. When the forklift operator encounters large or heavy goods that are out of the driver's sight, the forklift operator should drive in reverse.
The "eight prohibitions" should be observed during operation.
1. Single fork operation is not allowed.
2. The goods are not allowed to be lifted for long distances.
3. The method of picking up goods by overturning the pallet with a fork is not allowed.
4. Chemicals, flammables and other hazardous chemicals are not allowed to be directly shoveled with a fork.
5. The inertia force is not allowed to pick up goods.
6. The braking force is not allowed to release round or easy-to-roll objects.
7. It is not allowed to work with people on the pallet or fork. It is strictly forbidden to stand after the fork is raised and the goods are lowered.
8. It is not allowed to drive horizontally on the sloping road.
Stop in the following situations
1. Curves, narrow roads, railway crossings;
2. Road sections with a longitudinal slope greater than 5%.
3. When there is an obstacle on one side of the road, the opposite side of the section with the same length as the obstacle is within 20 meters at both ends.
